This year’s theme is Stemming the Tide of Wastefulness: We Can Make it Happen! The program is focused on tangible ways to reduce waste and engage in environmental stewardship for individuals, businesses, municipalities, and organizations.

From the wreck of the Sparrow-Hawk in 1626 to the grounding of the Eldia in 1984, Cape Cod’s outer beach—often referred to as the “Graveyard of Ships”—saw the demise of more than three thousand vessels along forty miles of shifting shoals. Join us as Author Don Wilding revisits these maritime disasters, and follow up with our new exhibit, The Menace of Cape Cod: A Hazard to Navigation.

Reptiles Rock, the Rainforest Reptile Show’s most popular and unique presentation engages children of all ages at hands-on level. Reptiles Rock includes a mini zoo set-up with 10 to 14 smaller animals such as bugs, frogs, snakes and lizards to look at. Plus, the fun and informative presentation by a Rainforest Reptile herpetologist with 4 larger animals including a large red or yellow foot tortoise (S. America), a large monitor or tegu lizard (Africa or S. America), a 9 to 10 ft. boa or python (S. America or Myanmar/Burma) and of course, the American alligator (USA). All habitats are tropical or semi-tropical rainforests.

The Cleon Crowell Native American Artifact Collection From Lower Cape Cod

The Cleon Crowell collection of Native American artifacts at the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History contains hundreds of stone tools and ceramic sherds obtained from the Lower Cape in the early 20th century. The collection was recently analyzed by archaeologist Dan Zoto to gain insights to the types of artifacts included and their relative ages. Artifacts in the collection span at least the last 10,000 years. Join Dan Zoto for an overview of the project and highlights of the interesting material that it contains.

Was the harsh punishment levied upon three suspected plotters--one the troublesome son of a Cabinet member--warranted? The incident inspired parts of several Herman Melville works and the creation of the Naval Academy, and its aftermath was the subject of almost-obsessive public interest. . . .Join us as beloved historian of crime and the macabre Greg Williams dives into this fascinating piece of Naval history.

Topics include how to: write checks; collect money; estimate; invoice; track time; pay bills; make bank deposits; run reports; set up budgets; set up loans; buy and depreciate equipment; send out collections letters; turn estimates into invoices; memorize transactions and more. The final workshop will include a Q&A session, to address items that participants may need further work on.
